Anne, is this your pin?!

Okay, I'm probably overreacting here, but I THINK I JUST SAW A PIN MY SISTER MADE IN THE WILDS OF THE INTERNET! That is SO AWESOME! The Television Tropes website has this as the example picture accompanying the Mary Sue article. Anne, you're a minor internet celebrity now!

What Upcoming Movie is this Screen Shot From?

Let's play a game! It's called the "What upcoming movie based on a well known property is this screenshot from?"

Here's a picture captured from the trailer:

What movie is this from? *Cue Jeopardy music*

Time's up. This is a picture of Superman. If you answered "Man of Steel" then you are correct!

But you didn't guess that, right? I thought not.

This is What Happens When You Show Aliens a Baby and a Microwave

I saw this posted over at io9 and I had to share it! These aliens are obsessed with microwaving this baby. Clay alien gore follows.

The creator, Lee Hardcastle has a slightly disturbing low budget claymation website that you can visit here. If you're into that sort of thing. I won't judge.

Incredible Furniture

I have two furniture videos that just might blow your mind. The first one features a whole lot of transforming furniture. The craziest is probably the couch that becomes a bunk bed at the 5:20 mark. The brand is called Clei and since I'm probably destined for tiny living quarters in the near future, it's definitely one to keep in mind.

Next up, the extendable paper couch! This one speaks for itself:

Twilight Toilets

Quick update! I just saw this on The Mary Sue.

Perfect.

I made this #2: Kitchen island

I just completed a project I've been working on for a long time. This cabinet has been the bane of my existence. Good riddance!

Actually it came out pretty well. And yes, I forgot one of the pulls at home. It will get there soon.

Next project: counter top!

Super Mario Stuff That Must Be Seen

It's been a very Mario kind of day.

Thing #1 I have to share comes via GoNintendo:

The cover of the final issue of Nintendo Power. This is the same layout as the cover of the first issue from 25 years ago with vastly improved clay figures and a newly added flag pole to signal the end. I was thinking it would be sad to see the very last one, and then they went and did this and it's so awesome! How can you see this and be sad? I think it's a nice way to wrap things up.

Thing #2:

...is this amazing stop motion video. This is actually the third one these guys have done and all the figures were made with those bead kits that you bake to melt the plastic together. It always reminds me of Teeny Little Super Guy. I call him Teeny Little Super Mario.

To see a making of video hit the jump. Make sure to turn on the captions unless you are fluent in Swedish. I'm somewhat passable in Swedish Chef.

Zeddy is abandoned in the woods! How did I miss this?

Poor Zeddy. Somehow this was a thing that happened back in September and I never heard about it! Zellers officially abandoned Zeddy. It's both sad and hilarious! Did you know he lives in Sarnia?

Don't worry, though. Apparently he has been adopted as the mascot for Camp Trillium. Yes, for real.

New Nintendo Wii Mini

Here's a strange thing. Nintendo is launching a smaller, less costly version of the Wii for the Christmas holidays but it cannot play GameCube games or access the internet. Weirder still, it will only be available in Canada, at least for now. Since when do we get exclusives like this? I can kind of see parents buying this to hook up in the kids' bedroom, attached to one of those Disney Princess TVs from Toys R Us. I don't know why else you'd want a crippled Wii console, but I love the boxy look. Yup, I'm one of those freaks that likes it when their toys look like toys. Forget you, Apple.

I guess this could work at the cottage. I wonder if it has collectible potential.

And now for something silly

Warning: strong language. And other weirdness.

Who do the Ghostbusters call?

An announcement about a new Ghostbusters comic caught my eye today. IDW publishing is relaunching their Ghostbusters comic with a new cast. That is not the part that stood out to me, though. It was that Janine has been promoted! There she is on the cover.

The storyline seems to be something like some demon or other actually defeats the previous ghostbusters and a new cast will be taking on the job, presumably to save them at some point.

You can read more about it here.

All the Wrong Questions

Earlier this week, this book appeared in my house. Until then I had absolutely no idea that there was a new series by Lemony Snicket. All I know about it so far is that this book came out on October 23, it's called 'Who Could That Be at This Hour?', and I will be stealing borrowing it from my little brother soon. You can have a look at the official website here, but don't tell anyone. It's a secret, 'K?

Impressive Lego Music Video

Someone with too much time on their hands made this amazing music video for Foster the People's Houdini using Lego people. I actually think it's as appealing as the real video. Also, the song is good. Check it out!

An Oddly Prescient Muppets Sketch

Take a look at the finale at 7:15 of this Pigs in Space meets Star Wars clip. It's like the writers could fortell the future, isn't it?

Awesome laptop stand from Ikea

I wanted to mention this laptop stand because it's something I've needed for a while and it's such a good deal. The stand is only $5 (no extra fan built in or anything)and it comes in black AND super-awesome green! Just for you,Wood Wool and Stone. It's called BRÄDA, from Ikea.

Doc Brown vs. Doctor Who Rap Battle

The Misleading Headline of the the Day

MSN was carrying a news story titled "Restoring Ancient Organs in Transylvania". My first impression was way more exciting and gruesome than what the story turned out the be about. Also, there were no cartoon vampires. Which goes without saying, I guess.

Fix-It Philip Jr.

I made this Fit-It Felix Jr. cake with a Super Mario pan today for my brother's birthday party. After supper I'M GONNA WRECK IT!

Japanese Wreck it Ralph trailer has AKB48 and new footage

I just learned that the theme music for the Sugar Rush game seen in Wreck it Ralph is performed in Japanese by the girl group AKB48. In the english version a well. Very odd choice. I guess it's supposed to be a Japanese developed fictional game then? Anyway, if you get past the intro by AKB48, there is a japanese trailer with a few new scenes. One that stood out to me was Veneloppe being bullied by a character I haven't seen in other trailers.

The short playing with Wreck it Ralph is called Paperman and I saw it at this year's Ottawa Interational Animation Festival. Visually, it looks amazing. The story is told without spoken lines and is, well, pretty sappy, but it's sweet. The cool part about it is that the figures of the characters were rendered without pupils in their eyes and missing other facial features, and artists animated the facial expressions by hand! You can read a quick explanation about this process here. They were trying to achieve a hand drawn look while still getting the best of the computer's capabilities. It's a cool effect but it may be impractical for a whole film.

The director of this short signed a poster for me. He wrote, "Good luck in animation."

Le sigh.

Hotel Transylvania Review + Q&A with Genndy Tartakovsky

It's Ottawa International Animation Festival time, my favourite time of the year!

Tonight Hotel Transylvania played at the Bytowne Cinema, followed by a Q&A with director Genndy Tartakovsky. This movie is a ton of fun to watch. There is a lot of physical comedy, and fotunately it is mostly well executed. The audience was laughing the whole way through.

Going into this movie I had no idea that Adam Sandler was in it, which is for the best because, had I have know, I might not have gone to see it. Surprisingly, I never realized it was him until the credits rolled. His turn as Dracula may actually be the best performance of his career.

The story itself is pretty light. The movie is essentially an ongoing arguement between an over protective parent and his young adult daughter (at 118 years old!) who yearns to be independent and see more of the world, but interrupted by numerous action and comedy scenes, plus a touch of romance. It's a simple and fast paced story at about 1hr and 30min.

To read a bit of what director Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab, Star Wars Clone Wars) had to say after the film, hit the jump.

Ace Attorney 5 Info

Capcom has revealed Phoenix's new character design for Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney 5. It's been 10 years, so he has to look older, right? See, he's got a new haircut and everything! And a vest. Vests = older!
"Do you like my new haircut? What do you mean it looks the same? I have a tiny forlock now! That's totally different."

In any case, I love Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney games, so I am officially excited. Already confirmed for North America! Yay!

"'Tis a Tale Told by an Umpire; Full of Sound and Fury, Signifying One-Nothing"

So, my cousin Erin is in a play starting today. From August 22 to 25, Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband will be playing at the Southminster United Church in Ottawa, Ontario. Doors open at 7pm, curtain at 8pm. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Go check it out if you can.

In the mean time, you can enjoy this classic skit/comedy of errors involving the Stratford Baseball team.

"A hit! A hit! A very palpable hit!"

Another Stupid Video, Maybe

Although the world is sick of "Call Me, Maybe", I'm posting this anyway because it is Star Trek and it is awesome. Dancing, trumpet playing Q is full of win.

"Crazy!"

Animaniacs tribute to Dubstep

This is kind of brilliant.

Darth Cupcake approves this product.

Here's a genius idea. Since candles on cake usually result in mouthfuls of wax, the people at Salon Professionnel du Chocolat decided to make the candle out of chocolate fondant. The candle itself is actually in a metal sleeve, and the heat transfer melts the chocolate. The question is, how does it taste? I really want to try this someday.

You too can be cast in carbonite like Han Solo!

A closer look at a few carbonite figurines. Will be mine... Eventually. #fb
During 2012 Disney World has an event going on called Star Wars Weekends. One of the cooler things to do is an attraction where you can have your image taken and used to create your very own 8" figure featuring you frozen in carbonite! (Only $100!)

This Way Up

By request of my #1 follower (there's only one!), my blog returns!

Today I was thinking about the upcoming Ottawa International Animation Festival, and I was reminded of one of my favourite films that I've seen there. Here it is for all the world to see!

Don't worry, it's pretty short.

Today, I achieved a small goal

Last post for a little while, I promise.

This is my papercraft daruma doll. I made him earlier this week because I needed a motivational boost. Daruma dolls are cool because they are not only symbols of good luck, but they encourage you to make your own luck. When you buy a real one, its eyes are blank. You are supposed to decide on a goal and then draw in one eye. You can't draw on the other one until you make your goal happen! I wrote my goal on its head. It was to finish my technology report for my Methods and Materials class. I handed it in today, so now he gets another eye. See him in his eyeless glory after the jump.

Life With Archie is weird... and awesome

Anyone who's ever read an Archie comic, you might want to read this.

I just wanted to let the world know: Life With Archie does not suck. It is the opposite of suck. And it is extremely weird. Each issue follows Archie's life after he marries Betty and then, in a second story, after he marries Veronica. It sounds like a lame love story, but this is one comic that is nothing like you would expect. To see some of the really weird developments (or if you just want to know what's up with that picture) hit the jump.

Warning: spoilers

New J.K. Rowling novel = Hot Fuzz?

The Little, Brown Book Group has posted a synopsis for J.K.Rowling's new adult novel, The Casual Vacancy. The plot sounds like Hot Fuzz, but with 100% less Sergeant Nicholas Angel, which is too bad. Still, I am intrigued.

Does your money have glow in the dark dinosaurs on it?

According to the National Post:

"The image of a dinosaur whose remains were discovered in Alberta’s Peace Country will be featured on our newest quarter — the first Canadian coin with a glow-in-the dark picture. The quarter, being released by the Royal Canadian Mint April 16, features Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, a large herbivore whose bone fragments were discovered by Grande Prairie, Alta., science teacher Al Lakusta in 1974."

The sad part is that the reverse side of the coin does not feature a glow-in-the dark skeleton Queen Elizabeth.

The challenge!

My dear, darling sister, Anne, says I am not tech savvy enough to create a blog. Regardless of whether or not she is right, that sounds like a challenge to me! Look at my blog in all its bloggy glory!
